What has he accomplished?
Michael Shannon has managed the design, evaluation and operation of large scale school readiness programs for families with children from prenatal to five years of age, ecological intervention program for at risk children and youth from kindergarten through high school, design of service and funding models for school based health care and design of the model community school. In these roles over the last 15 years, he has helped develop $100 million dollars in new funding for programs for students and families. He is currently on the Los Angeles County Child Care Planning Committee, Advisory Board for the UCLA/ Rand Prevention Research Center; and the Torrance Unified School District Independent Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee. Mr. Shannon was a consultant on the development of school-linked family resource centers and co-author of Using Family Resource Centers to Support California’s Young Children and Their Families, and The Healthy Start Initiative in California as well as co-editor of a series of state policy briefs on early childhood issues.
